MIST MACHINING OF METALS USING FINITE ELEMENT MODELLING

Name of the Principal Investigator: Mr.B.MADHU

Project Cost: Rs.6,30,000-/

Funding Agency: AICTE (RPS –Scheme)

Duration : 2 Years

Status : On-going

Project Summary:

The major problems in achieving high productivity and quality are caused by high cutting temperature developed during machining .Such high temperature causes dimensional deviation and premature failure of cutting tools. It is also impairs the surface integrity of the product by inducting tensile residual stresses and surface and subsurface micro cracks in addition to rapid oxidation and corrosion. A method of delivering coolant to the work piece with a mist applicator that carries water and air to cool the work piece. Mist cooling a different approach in which the temperature at cutting zone is reduced to a very low range.
