DEPARTMENT INFRASTURCTURE

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established since the inception of the College ie in the year 1998.The department is accredited by NBA and ISO 9001:2000 certified. The department is housed with an area of approximately 2,200 sq.m. Apart from central library, the department is provided with separate library comprising of 600 volumes of books, national and inter national journals, proceedings, technical CD’s, etc.

The Department has one of the  best facilities available in the region  in terms of infrastructure including  laboratories and faculty. Lectures, seminars, laboratory classes and tutorials form a large part of in-college academic activity. The Department imparts   quality    education to   its   students, in modern lecture rooms equipped with appropriate  teaching   aids.

In laboratories , students experiment with the latest    technologies which help    them     in     kindling      their    latent     skills. The tutorials offer individual contact amongst a group of students and a tutor. In a seminar, a group of students, faculty members and industry expert  meet to discuss papers prepared on a given subject. The students are encouraged to participate in state and national level symposia. Due to quality academic standard of the Department, the students of the   Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program have been consistently performing well , securing good marks in University examinations.

FACULTY

All the department faculty members hold Post Graduate degrees and many have registered for their Ph.D. programme in Anna University. The staff members motivate the students to undertake research projects and they guide the students in presenting their projects in symposia and conferences. The Faculty to student ratio is 1:14

ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

• The department have organized National Level Workshops on “Six Sigma Process” and “Computational Fluid Dynamics”

• Eminent Professors from IIT Chennai, Anna University and Industrialists have delivered lectures during the workshops and Seminars conducted by the department.

• Every year Society of Mechanical Engineers (Student’s Association) have organized a National Level technical symposium “Dynamix” and many students from various institutions have expressed their talents in paper presentations and other events.

• All the students of Mechanical Engineering hold membership in professional bodies like IET, ISTE

• A student chapter has been opened for IET in our college premises.

• Students are encouraged to work on industry relevant project work in leading companies like : CVRDE, ICF, Ennore Foundaries, HVF, Lucas TVS, Sundaram Clayton Ltd.

• Mr.S.Vijayakumar secured 7th Rank in Madras University Examinations (Mechanical Engineering 1999-2003 Batch) and Mr.Arun Pandiyan secured 46th rank in Anna University Examinations (Mechanical Engineering 2003-2007 Batch)

ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Mr.V. Sundarajan, and Mr. R. Rajesh, got placed in M/S J.M.FRIC TECH INDIA LTD. Chennai.
2. Mr.S. Elumalai got placed in Schwing Stetters Ltd Chennai
3. Formation of SAEINDIA Collegiate club is recognized.
4. Recognized as R&D center by Anna University chennai
5. Highly equipped laboratories with well experienced lab technicians
6. Highly qualified & Well Experienced Faculties
7. Two of the faculty members are holding PhD degree
8. Four of the faculty members pursuing PhD in Anna University
9. Most of the faculty members in our department  rendering their service for more than 6 years in S.A. Engg college
10. During the last semester, the 24 industrial  projects were carried out by our students in reputed industries like Ashok Leyland, CVRDE, Chennai Port Trust, ICF, Rane Engine Valves Ltd, TVS Lucas Ltd , AUDCO India Ltd
11. Our student’s project  on “Regenerative Braking System in Automobiles” have own 1st Prize in the event “Project Exhibits” held at Sri Ram Engineering College.
12. Final year students C.Shanmugam and H.Stalin got FIRST PRIZE in the ProE Design competiton held at Velammal Engg college chennai  in the month of  August 2010.
13. L. Vinoth Kumar Third year mechanical got Best PHYSIQUE AWARD in the Anna University Inter-Zonal Tournaments for the year 2010-2011 held at Velammal Engg college chennai

22. Three projects have been selected and presented in National Conference. They have been given below

National Level Conference :

• A research paper on Design and analysis on 3 ring large bore locomotive piston was presented by Adil Ahmed.I  (Final Year Mechanical)in SNS  College of Technology, Coimbatore.
• A research paper on Finite Element Analysis on scooter frame was Presented by Kevin Gifford.R and Parthiban.S (Final Year Mechanical ) in SNS College of Technology, Coimbatore.
• A research paper on Finite element analysis on spindle of WF flange spinning Machine was presented by S.Elumalai and Hemakumar.R in Sastha Engineering College.
